(House Bill 1217)
AN ACT to add new Section 39A to Article 26 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title "Courts," subtitle
"Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court Stenographers," to follow
immediately after Section 39 thereof, to provide that the judge
of the circuit court for Garrett County is authorized to appoint a
stenographer and generally relating thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 39A be and it is hereby added to Article 26 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume), title
"Courts," subtitle "Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court Stenog-
raphers," to follow immediately after Section 39 thereof, and to
read as follows:
39A.
The judge or judges of the circuit court for Garrett County is
authorized and empowered to appoint a stenographer at a com-
pensation not to exceed $5,000.00, to be paid by the County Com-
missioners of Garrett County. The stenographer shall have authority
to take and transcribe the testimony given before the grand jury
in Garrett County, and all of the testimony so taken and transcribed
shall be for the exclusive use and benefit of the grand jury and the
State's Attorney of Garrett County unless otherwise ordered by the
court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 277 (p)
of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Revenue and Taxes", subtitle "Recordation
Tax", authorizing the County Commissioners to increase the recor-
dation tax in Kent County CAROLINE AND KENT COUNTIES.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 277(p) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-
title "Recordation Tax", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
