AN ACT to add a new Section 62 to Article 40 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1967 Supple-
ment), title "General Assembly," to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 61 thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Speaker's
Office," making provision for the position of secretary to the
Speaker of the House of Delegates, and relating generally to this
position and to the appointment, salary, duties, and responsibilities
thereof.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section 62 be and it is hereby added to Article 40 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1967
Supplement), title "General Assembly," to follow immediately after
Section 61 thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Speaker's Office,"
and to read as follows:

62.
The position of secretary to the Speaker of the House of Delegates
is established, with duties and responsibilities as assigned by the
Speaker. The annual salary for the position is as set by the Budget
from time to time. Appointment to the position shall be by the
Speaker, without regard to the provisions of Article 64A of the Code.
An incumbent is subject to removal by the Speaker for cause, upon
due notice, a statement of the cause, and the right to a public hearing.
Except as specifically provided in this section, the secretary has
all the rights and privileges of State employees generally, including
vacation and sick leave and membership in the Retirement System
under Article 73B of the Code.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
