(House Bill 709)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 48 (b)
of Article 78 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Public Service Commission Law," subtitle
"Public Service Companies," subheading "Carrier Companies," to
exempt taxicabs in Hagerstown from the requirement that they
be equipped with taximeters.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 48(b) of Article 78 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public Service Commission Law,"
subtitle "Public Service Companies," subheading "Carrier Com-
panies," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

48.

(b) Each taxicab for which a permit is required , except those
operating in the City of Hagerstown, shall be equipped, while in
service, with an accurate taximeter properly installed and con-
nected, which shall be the exclusive means of measuring the
charges for service. Such meters shall be subject to inspection and
test by the Commission.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
