Court of Calvert County who shall receive for each such license
issued the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00) per annum. Any person
violating the provisions of this subtitle shall, upon conviction, be
fined not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) nor more than
three hundred dollars ($300.00) to be recovered as other fines are
recovered.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

CHAPTER 270
(House Bill 618)

AN ACT to add new Section 134C to Article 56 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Licenses,"
subtitle "Gypsies, Fortunetellers, etc.," to follow immediately after
Section 134B thereof to require fortunetellers, etc. in Calvert
County to be licensed and providing a penalty for violating the
provisions of this Act.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 134C be and it is hereby added to Article 56 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title
"Licenses," subtitle "Gypsies, Fortunetellers, etc.," to follow imme-
diately after Section 134B thereof, and to read as follows:

(a)    Notwithstanding any other sections of this Article, in Cal-
vert County any palm reader, fortuneteller, or soothsayer or similar
person shall apply to the clerk of the circuit court for a license to
carry on such business. The license shall be issued to cover only
three month periods and the fee shall be one thousand dollars
($1,000.00). Prior to the issuance of such license the applicant
must be fingerprinted and photographed by the Maryland State Police
and have a certificate from, the State Police that their records indi-
cate that the person has never been convicted of a crime, other than
motor vehicle violations.

(b)    Any person violating the provisions of this section shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine of not less than
one hundred dollars ($100.00) nor more than five hundred dollars
($500.00) and may, in the discretion of the court, in addition, be
imprisoned for not more than six months.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
