The voter shall sign the certification upon the carrier envelope
as set forth above, and shall then deliver the sealed carrier envelope
to the registrar.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

CHAPTER 211
(House Bill 236)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(u)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition
and 1967 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys
in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," to change amount of
allowance for secretarial expenses and adding subsection (3) to
provide for an assistant State's Attorney and his salary, for the
office of State's Attorney of Talbot County. INCREASING THE
SALARY OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY FOR TALBOT
COUNTY AND PROVIDING FOR OFFICE SPACE AND
SECRETARIAL AND CLERICAL ASSISTANCE FOR THAT
OFFICE AND FOR THE SALARY OF THE ASSISTANT
STATE'S ATTORNEY.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland.
That Section 40(u) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition and 1967 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law
and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments, and to read as
follows:

40.

(u) In Talbot County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is six
thousand five hundred dollars ($6,500.00). DURING THE TERM
OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY ELECTED TO THAT POSI-
TION IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 1966. AT THE BE-
GINNING OF THE TERM OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY
WHO IS ELECTED TO THAT POSITION IN THE MONTH
OF NOVEMBER 1970 AND THEREAFTER, THE STATE'S
ATTORNEY'S SALARY IS TWELVE THOUSAND FIVE HUN-
DRED DOLLARS ($12,500.00).

(2) The State's Attorney's allowance for secretarial expenses is
[eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800).] Two thousand dollars ($3,000.)
(3) The State's
Attorney may appoint an assistant State's Attorney.

The salary of the assistant State's Attorney shall be thirty five

hundred dollars ($3,500.00) per year.

(2) THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY APPOINT AN AS-
SISTANT STATE'S ATTORNEY AND HIS SALARY SHALL
