CHAPTER 209
(House Bill 233)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 25(a)
and 25 (h) of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964
Replacement Volume and 1967 Supplement), title "Juries," sub-
title "Qualification and Selection of Jurors"; and to repeal Sec-
tion 25(f) thereof; and to add a new Section 25(f) in lieu of the
section so repealed, revising the provisions concerning the per
diem compensation and the mileage allowance of jurors in the
several counties of Calvert, Charles, Prince George's, and St.
Mary's.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 25(a) and 25(h) of Article 51 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1967 Supplement),
title "Juries," subtitle "Qualification and Selection of Jurors," be
and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments;
that Section 25(f) thereof be and it is hereby repealed; that a
new Section 25(f) be and it is hereby added in lieu of the section
so repealed, and all to read as follows:

25. (a) Jurors in Washington County shall receive eight dollars
per day and a reasonable amount, in the discretion of the County
Commissioners for each mile over five miles in going to and return-
ing from court; in Queen Anne's and Caroline counties, seven dol-
lars and fifty cents per day; in Anne Arundel, Harford, Kent, Mont-
gomery and Somerset counties, and in Baltimore City, ten dollars
per day, and no extra allowance shall be given either for mileage
or overtime in Anne Arundel, Harford, Montgomery and Somerset
counties and in Baltimore City; in Carroll County, eight dollars
per day; [in Prince George's and Charles counties, jurors shall re-
ceive per diem compensation, not less than five ($5.00) dollars nor
more than ten ($10.00) dollars, in such amounts as shall be set,
from time to time, by the judges of the circuit court for said county]
and in all other counties, except Allegany, Baltimore, Calvert,
Charles, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, Prince George's, St.
Mary's and Wicomico counties, five dollars per day for each and
every day they shall attend the several courts of this State as jurors
and fifteen cents for each mile over five miles for going to and re-
turning from the court, once in each term, to be paid by the counties,
respectively, in which courts are held. In Baltimore County, jurors
shall receive per diem compensation in such amount as shall be
set, from time to time, by the judges of the Circuit Court of Balti-
more County. Jurors in Frederick County shall receive at least
eight dollars per day for each and every day they shall attend the
Circuit Court of Frederick County as jurors and a reasonable
amount in the discretion of the County Commissioners, for each
mile going to and returning from the court.

[(f) In St. Mary's County jurors shall receive $10.00 per day for
each and every day they shall attend a court of this State as jurors].

(f) In Calvert, Charles, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties,
jurors shall receive ten dollars for each day in attendance at a
court as jurors, covering service up to the hour of six o'clock p.m.
on any day. An additional sum of five dollars shall be paid if the
