existing. It has the powers, duties, responsibilities, and functions
provided in this subtitle and elsewhere in the laws of this State.
All references in the statutes and laws of this State to the Depart-
ment of Correction or to any of the positions established therein
shall be construed as if the same referred to the Department of
Correctional Services. Hereafter in this subtitle the Department of
[Correction] Correctional Services may be referred to as "the
Department" or "Department".
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1968.

CHAPTER 138
(Senate Bill 349)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 51 of
Article 96A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Water Resources", subtitle "Other Powers
and Functions", to provide that the Department of Water Re-
sources shall administer financial assistance to local governments
and other State agencies as may be made available for this pur-
pose; to repeal Section 52 of said title and subtitle of said Code
and to enact new Section 52 in lieu thereof, to stand in the place
of the section repealed, to require the Department of Water
Resources to cooperate with federal, state and local agencies in
all water resource projects or programs affecting the waters of
the State and to administer such financial assistance therefor as
may be made available.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 51 of Article 96A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume), title "Water Resources", subtitle
"Other Powers and Functions", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, and that Section 52 of said title and
subtitle of said Code be and it is hereby repealed; and that new
Section 52 be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in
the place of the section repealed and to read as follows:

The Department shall provide technical assistance to local gov-
ernments and other State agencies in interpreting flood information
and in drafting local land use and other regulations pertaining to
areas subject to flooding. The Department shall review plans for
local public works and shall further exercise regulatory control over
all such works in or on the waters of the State as provided for in
Sections 10 through 21, inclusive, of this article. The Department
shall administer such financial assistance for flood control as may
be made available for this purpose.

In carrying out its responsibility for water resource planning,
