passage of this legislation for the Governor, through the tourist
division of the Department of Economic Development, to assure
that Maryland is furnished with adequate and prominent facilities
in the center.

Whereas, There are approximately ten million visitors to Wash-
ington, D. C. annually, and

Whereas, Maryland should take definite steps to siphon off a good
segment of these Washington tourists into Maryland; and

Whereas, H. R. 12603 recently reported favorably out of a Com-
mittee of the House of Representatives, would establish a National
Visitors' Center in Union Station in Washington, to be administered
by the Department of Interior, which would lease sections of the
building to various organizations and states for tourist promotion
and guidance; and

Whereas, Since this Center would serve over 50,000 people a day,
this would be an exceptional opportunity for Maryland to make the
Washington visitor aware of nearby Maryland attractions and
thereby divert these tourists into Maryland; now, therefore be it

Resolved by the Maryland General Assembly, That the Maryland
Delegation to Congress be requested to work for the passage of
H.R. 12603; and be it further

Resolved, Upon the passage of this legislation, that the Governor
through the Tourist Division of the Department of Economic Develop-
ment, assure that Maryland is furnished with prominent facilities
in the National Visitors' Center; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to Spiro T. Agnew,
Governor of Maryland, Ormsby S. Moore, the Governor's Coordinator
for Economic Affairs, Gilbert Crandall, Chief of the Tourism Divi-
sion, Senators Brewster and Tydings, and Representatives Morton,
Long, Garmatz, Fallon, Machen, Mathias, Friedel and Gude.

Senate Joint Resolution requesting the Legislative Council to con-
tinue its Tourism Committee.

Whereas, Maryland has a tremendous tourism potential but unfor-
tunately has not lived up to this potential; and

Whereas, The Legislative Council has recognized the value of
tourism and the work which must be done in the State to build Up
the tourism industry in Maryland and for three years in succession
has appointed a special committee to study tourism; and
