Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 251 A(j) of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1967 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments,"
subtitle "Gaming," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
251A.
(j) A prize in cash, merchandise, or services for any one game
of bingo conducted and operated under the provisions of this section
shall not exceed in value the amount of $15.00, except that "jackpot"
prizes may be offered in a maximum amount of $250.00. If the
organization or municipal corporation conducts and operates a game
of bingo on premises which are rented or leased by it, the rental or
leasing agreement must first be approved by the bingo board before
a license may be issued. Nothing in this section shall be construed
to permit the conduct and operation of a game bingo on Sunday. No
person under 18 years of age shall be permitted to engage or partici-
pate in any game of bingo operated and conducted under the provi-
sions of this section. The charge for admission to any premises in
order to engage or participate in a game of bingo shall not exceed the
sum of $1.00. Games of bingo shall not be conducted on more than
seventy-five days in any year by any licensee hereunder. No games
shall be conducted in any room or area where alcoholic beverages
are sold or served during the progress of the game. No license shall
be issued to any applicant qualified under the provisions of this
section to conduct games of bingo outside the election district in
which its main office, headquarters, or usual meeting place is situ-
ated. No game shall be advertised as to its location, the time when
it is to be or has been conducted, or the prizes awarded or to be
awarded, by means of radio, television or sound track SYSTEMS, or
by means of billboards, posters or handbills (except as specified here-
inbelow in this sub-section) or any other means addressed to the gen-
eral public except that one sign not exceeding twelve square feet in
area may be displayed on or adjacent to the premises where the game
will be conducted. Notwithstanding the prohibition above in this sub-
section concerning the use of posters or handbills, it is not a vio-
lation of this sub-section to show information about a game or the
prizes awarded on a bulletin board or by use of posters or handbills
in or on such premises and places as hotels, motels, restaurants,
stores, SERVICE ESTABLISHMENTS, and information centers,
THAT ARE LOCATED IN THE ELECTION DISTRICT IN WHICH
THE GAME IS TO BE CONDUCTED if done in accordance with
general rules and regulations promulgated under sub-section (e).
WILL BE CONDUCTED. ALSO, NOTICE THAT A GAME IS
TO BE HELD MAY BE POSTED ON A BULLETIN BOARD
OR INCLUDED ON A POSTER INSIDE THE PREMISES OF
A HOTEL, MOTEL, RESTAURANT OR STORE THAT IS
LOCATED IN THE ELECTION DISTRICT IN WHICH THE
GAME IS TO BE CONDUCTED, IF DONE IN ACCORDANCE
WITH GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS PROMUL-
GATED UNDER SUBSECTION (E).
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
