January 1 or on or before thirty days after the bill for the taxes
has been mailed or made available, whichever is the later date; but
such penalty must have been fixed prior to October 1 by enactment
of the governing body concerned.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

CHAPTER 707
(House Bill 665)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 96 (a)
(6) of Article 75 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965
Replacement Volume), title "Pleadings, Practice and Process at
Law," subtitle "Bases of Personal Jurisdiction Over Persons
Outside This State," providing that the courts may exercise per-
sonal jurisdiction over a non-resident surety on a cause of action
arising from business in this State.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 96 (a) (6) of Article 75 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Pleadings, Practice and
Process at Law," subtitle "Bases of Personal Jurisdiction Over
Persons Outside This State," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
96.
(a) (6) contracting to insure or act as surety for, or on, any
person, property, or risk, contract, obligation, or agreement located,
or executed OR TO BE PERFORMED within this State at the time
of contracting, UNLESS THE PARTIES OTHERWISE PROVIDE
IN WRITING.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 566(a)
of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Health," subtitle "Hospitals and Related
Institutions," amending the laws concerning the functions of the
State Board of Health and Mental Hygiene as the agency to
represent the State with respect to certain portions of the Public
