the pleasure of the State's Attorney. The deputy State's attorney's
salary shall not exceed [thirty-six hundred dollars ($3,600.00)]
five thousand dollars ($5,000.00). Under the direction of the
State's Attorney, the deputy State's attorney shall present cases to
the grand jury and perform such other acts and duties in relation
to the grand jury and in the operation of the office as are necessary
and proper.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 211 (a)
of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Public Education," subtitle "High Schools,"
to provide that the State Board of Education may waive the age
AND/OR RESIDENCE requirement for obtaining an equivalence
certificate.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 211 (a) of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public Education," sub-
title "High Schools," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
211.
(a) Any person who has not obtained a high school certificate
or diploma and who has resided in Maryland or on a federal reserva-
tion within the State of Maryland for at least one year and (1) who
is 19 years of age or older, or (2) who is a member of the armed
forces of the United States and is 17 years of age or older, may
obtain an equivalent certificate in accordance with this section. The
State Board of Education may waive the age AND/OR RESIDENCE
requirements of this section, if they deem such waiver justified.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
