POSITION IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 1970, HE
SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY OF NOT LESS
THAN $5,400., AS FIXED BY THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
FROM TIME TO TIME, AND AN ANNUAL ALLOWANCE OF
$2,400. FOR EXPENSES. FROM AND AFTER THE BEGINNING
OF THE TERM OF THE SHERIFF ELECTED IN THE MONTH
OF NOVEMBER. 1970, HE SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL
SALARY OF NOT LESS THAN $7,800., AS FIXED BY THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FROM TIME TO TIME, AND NO
ALLOWANCE FOR EXPENSES.

The Sheriff shall appoint, subject to the provisions of Section 63A
to 63-I of the Allegany County Code (1955 Edition), subtitle "Classi-
fied Service," five (5) or more deputies at an annual salary of not
less than $3,300 each; one of said deputies shall be assigned to the
Sheriff to attend the magistrate for juvenile causes to execute his
process, orders and directions, and when not so engaged, to perform
such other duties as the Sheriff may require.

The Sheriff is allowed [free rent and maintenance] an annual

allowance of $2,400.00 for expenses, in addition to the salary
specified in this
subsection. Deputy sheriffs are entitled to free
meals while on duty, in addition to the salaries provided for in
this subsection.

The Sheriff if authorized by the County Commissioners, may
employ a clerk-bookkeeper from and after July 1, 1959, pursuant
to the provisions of said subtitle "Classified Service," and at a
salary as agreed upon by the Sheriff and the County Commissioners.
The clerk-bookkeeper shall perform such duties as may be assigned
by the Sheriff, including the preparation of all reports from the
Sheriff's Office for submission to the grand jury and the County
Commissioners.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this

Act concerning the salary of the Sheriff shall not be construed to

extend or apply to the sheriff in office on the effective date of this

Act, but the salary provisions of this Act shall take effect with the

next term of office.

Sec. 3. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1968.

(Senate Bill 355)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 4, 10,
16(b), 20(a), 23(d), 24(c), and 24(d) of Article 100 of the An-
notated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1967
Cumulative Supplement), title "Work, Labor and Employment,"
subtitle "Employment of Minors," to extend employment opportu-
nities for minors and to simplify requirements and procedures for
issuance of work permits.
