ing an exception in the case of clams purchased for the personal
consumption of the buyer or use as bait, and providing for pay-
ment of the tax in such cases.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 706(d) be and it is hereby added to Article 66C
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement Volume),
title "Natural Resources," subtitle "Oysters and Clams," to follow
immediately after Section 706(c) thereof, and to read as follows:
706.
(d) The Department of Chesapeake Bay Affairs is authorized
to designate by regulation certain areas in Maryland where oysters
and clams may be sold by the catcher thereof, to be known as buying
stations. It shall be unlawful for the catcher of oysters or clams
from Maryland waters to sell his catch in any place which has not
been designated a buying station under the provisions of this sub-
section. It shall be unlawful for any person to buy oysters or clams
from the catcher thereof in any place which has not been designated
a buying station under the provisions of this subsection. Notwith-
standing the provisions of this subsection, any person may legally
buy clams any place in Maryland from the catcher thereof for his
own consumption or use as bait, but not for resale; provided, how-
ever, that in any such transaction, the catcher of such clams shall
assume responsibility for payment of the tax imposed by subsection
713(1) of this article.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1,1968.

(House Bill 34)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 707(g)
and 771(c) of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1967 Replacement Volume), title "Natural Resources," subtitle
"Oysters and Claims," and to add new Section 711(d) to follow
immediately after Section 711(c) of said Article, title, and subtitle
of said Code, GENERALLY REVISING THE SCHEDULE OF
TAXES ON OYSTERS, establishing an Oyster Severance Tax,
PROVIDING FOR SUSPENSION OF THE LICENSE OF ANY
PERSON WHO FAILS TO MAINTAIN THE REQUIRED REC-
ORDS OR TO PAY THE TAX, and providing for the collection
of said tax and disposition of it, amending the provision applicable
to the collection of the inspection tax on exported oysters, and
repealing the provisions that provide for disposition of certain
funds in the Oyster Fund.
