requirements of this paragraph (11) is impracticable, exemptions
shall be established by regulations adopted under this subtitle; or
(12) If it fails to bear, directly thereon or on its containers,
as the Board may by regulations prescribe, the inspection legend and
such other information as the Board may require in such regulations
to effectuate the purposes of this subtitle.
(q) The term "label" means a display of written, printed, or
graphic matter upon the immediate container, not including package
liners, of any article.
(r) The term "labeling" means all labels and other written,
printed, or graphic matter (1) upon any article or any of its
containers or wrappers, or (2) accompanying such article.
(s) The term "official mark" means the official inspection legend
or any other symbol prescribed by regulations authorized by this
subtitle to identify the status of any article or animal under this
subtitle.
(t) The term "official inspection legend" means any symbol pre-
scribed by regulations adopted by the Board showing that an article
was inspected and passed in accordance with this subtitle.
(u) The term "official certificate" means any certificate prescribed
by regulations adopted by the Board for issuance by an inspector or
other person performing official functions under this subtitle.
(v) The term "official establishment" means any establishment in
this State at which inspection of the slaughter of livestock or the
preparation of livestock carcasses or parts thereof or meat food
products is maintained under the authority of this subtitle.
(w) The term "Federal Meat Inspection Act" means the Act of
Congress approved March 4, 1907 (34 STAT. 1260), AS AMENDED
BY THE WHOLESOME MEAT ACT (81 STAT. 584).
(X) THE TERM "PESTICIDE CHEMICAL", "FOOD ADDI-
TIVE", "COLOR ADDITIVE", AND "RAW AGRICULTURAL
COMMODITY" SHALL HAVE THE SAME MEANING FOR THE
PURPOSES OF THIS SUBTITLE AS UNDER THE FEDERAL
FOOD, DRUG, AND COSMETIC ACT APPROVED JUNE 25, 1938
(52 STAT. 1040), AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED.
(Y) THE TERM "OFFICIAL DEVICE" MEANS ANY DE-
VICE PRESCRIBED OR AUTHORIZED BY THE BOARD FOR
USE IN APPLYING ANY OFFICIAL MARK.

The Maryland State Board of Agriculture is hereby authorized to
enforce the provisions of this subtitle through such meat inspectors,
agents, and other employees of this State as may be designated or
appointed consistently with the provisions of this subtitle. All such
inspectors shall be employed under the merit system of this State
pursuant to the provisions of Article 64A of this Code, as amended
from time to time, except as otherwise provided in Section 470W of
this subtitle.
