that the Sabbath begins at sundown on Friday night and ends at
sundown on Saturday night and who actually refrain from secular
business and labor during such respective periods.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new subsection (g) be and it is hereby added to Section 521
of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replacement
Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Sabbath Break-
ing," to follow immediately after Section 521(f) thereof and to read
as follows:

521.

(g) This section shall not apply (1) to any person who con-
scientiously believes that the seventh day of the week ought to be
observed as the Sabbath and who actually refrains from secular
business and labor on that day, AND WHOSE BUSINESS ESTAB-
LISHMENT OR ESTABLISHMENTS OR EMPLOYER'S BUSI-
NESS ESTABLISHMENT OR ESTABLISHMENTS (WHETHER
A SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP, PARTNERSHIP OR CORPORA-
TION) ARE ACTUALLY CLOSED ON THAT DAY; or (2) To any
person who conscientiously believes that the Sabbath begins at sun-
down on Friday night and ends at sundown on Saturday night and
who actually refrains from secular business and labor during such
period, AND WHOSE BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT OR ESTAB-
LISHMENTS OR EMPLOYER'S BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT
OR ESTABLISHMENTS (WHETHER A SOLE PROPRIETOR-
SHIP, PARTNERSHIP OR CORPORATION) ARE ACTUALLY
CLOSED DURING SUCH PERIOD.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

CHAPTER 87
(Senate Bill 5)

AN ACT to add new Sections 62 to 69, inclusive, to Article 40 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1967
Supplement), title "General Assembly," to follow immediately
after Section 61 thereof, and to be under the new subtitle "Fiscal
Notes," requiring a fiscal note for certain bills or joint resolutions
having a fiscal effect upon the State government, making general
provisions for the duties of certain State officials in relation there-
to, and providing generally for fiscal notes for certain bills or
joint resolutions pending in the General Assembly of Maryland.
