(d) In the event the county commissioners of any county, or of
the counties maintaining, operating or participating in a regional
detention and correctional center [and] or the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore provide for making such required improve-
ments to the regional detention and correctional center, the jail or
other such places of detention of said county, counties or city, the
State, through the Board of Public Works, shall make provision for
paying one-half of the costs of such construction or improvements,
the plans and costs for same to be approved by the officer, the
Department of Correction, the Department of Public Improvements
and the State Planning Commission.
(e) In the event a vacancy should occur in the position of jail
programming and inspection officer, or if the said officer shall be
unable by reason of illness or infirmity to exercise the respective
powers and duties vested in him under the provisions of this
subtitle, the Commissioner of Correction is hereby authorized to
fully exercise in the interim the same to the extent the said jail
programming and inspection officer would otherwise be entitled.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1968.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 16 of
Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Natural Resources," subtitle "In General,"
subheading "Maryland Geological Survey," and add new Sections
110B to 110KL, inclusive, to said Article and title of said Code
to follow immediately after Section 110A thereof and to be under
the new subtitle "Archaeological Resources," imposing certain
requirements upon archaeological excavations in this State, re-
lating to injury or destruction of certain aboriginal or historical
sites in this State, creating a Division of Archaeology within the
Maryland Geological Survey, and providing for an Advisory
Committee on Archaeology, and relating generally to archaeo-
logical excavations and the functions of the Division of Archae-
ology.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 16 of Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1967 Replacement Volume), title "Natural Resources," subtitle
"In General," subheading "Maryland Geological Survey", be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
