CHAPTER 57
(House Bill 314)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 551A(d)
of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Supple-
ment), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "Crimes and
Punishments," subheading "Shoplifting," amending the law re-
lating to shoplifting to give the Municipal Court of Baltimore City-
jurisdiction where the amount in question does not exceed $500.00.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 551A(d) of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1966 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle
"Crimes and Punishments," subheading "Shoplifting," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as fol-
lows :

551A.

(d) Every person convicted of the crime of shoplifting to the
value of $100.00 or upwards, or as accessory thereto before the fact
shall be deemed guilty of a felony and shall restore any goods, or
things taken, to the owner or shall pay him the full value thereof,
and shall be fined not more than $1,000.00 or be imprisoned in the
penitentiary for not more than three years. If any person shall be
convicted of the crime of shoplifting under the value of $100.00
he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall restore the
goods and chattels so taken, or pay the full value thereof to the
owner thereof, and be fined not more than $100.00 or imprisoned
for not more than eighteen months in the house of correction or
jail, or both fined and imprisoned. In Baltimore City, where the
value of the thing stolen does not exceed five hundred dollars
($500.00), the Municipal Court of Baltimore City shall have jurisdic-
tion to try persons charged with violating this section, provided that
persons so convicted in the Municipal Court shall not be sentenced
to the penitentiary by that Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 58
(House Bill 315)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 466 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and
1966 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle
"Crimes and Punishments," subheading "Receiving Stolen Goods,
Money or Securities," amending the law relating to receiving
stolen goods to give the Municipal Court of Baltimore City juris-
diction where the amount in question does not exceed $500.00;
and correcting an error therein.
