[County] while going to or returning from or fighting a fire or
while engaged as a member of any ambulance, first aid or rescue
squad created within such fire companies shall be deemed workmen
for wages and engaged in extra-hazardous employment within the
meaning of this article.

(c) The county commissioners of Kent County and Howard
County shall secure compensation to volunteer firemen in case of
death, or to their dependents by insuring the payment of such com-
pensation in the State Accident Fund or in any private stock cor-
poration or mutual association authorized to provide such insurance.
The County Commissioners of Prince George's County and the
County Council of Anne Arundel County
shall secure compensation
to volunteer firemen, or to their dependents in case of death, by
insuring the payment of such compensation in the State Accident
Fund or in any private stock company or mutual association licensed
to provide such insurance. The County Commissioners of Kent
County shall annually levy upon the assessable property of Kent
County a tax sufficient to pay for such insurance. The County Com-
missioners of Howard County shall annually levy upon the assessable
property of Howard County a tax sufficient to pay for such insur-
ance. Provided, however, that the active members of the Chester-
town Volunteer Fire Company shall be limited to seventy-five mem-
bers, the active members of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company
shall be limited to sixty active members, the active members of the
Betterton Volunteer Fire Company shall be limited to fifty active
members, and the active members of each of the volunteer fire com-
panies of Kent County shall be limited to forty active members, and
that any rescue squad in Kent County shall be limited to a maximum
of twenty-five members and the active members of each of the volun-
teer fire companies in Howard County shall be limited to seventy-five
active members, and only active members shall be covered by the
provisions of this section. The County Commissioners of Prince
George's County shall pay 40 per cent of the cost of such insurance
to each volunteer fire company or volunteer rescue squad company
and the volunteer fire company or volunteer rescue squad company
shall pay 60 per cent of the cost of said insurance; and the County
Commissioners of Prince George's County shall annually levy upon
the assessable property of Prince George's County a tax sufficient
to pay for such portion of the cost of such insurance.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

(House Bill 3)

AN ACT to add new Section 9A to Article 78A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public
Works," subtitle "Board of Public Works," granting the Board
of Public Works the power of condemnation for certain purposes.
