I, Lloyd L. Simpkins, Secretary of State of the State of
Maryland, pursuant to the direction contained in Section 172 (c) of
Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1957 Edition), Do
Hereby Certify, that at the General Election held in the State of
Maryland on November 8, 1966, an Act known as Chapter 431 of the
Acts of 1966, was submitted to the voters of the State of Maryland,
pursuant to the provisions of Article 14 of the Constitution of the
State of Maryland, said Act being as follows:
AN ACT to propose an amendment to Section 15 of Article III
of the Constitution of Maryland, title "Legislative Depart-
ment," to provide that the General Assembly shall be em-
powered to set its own compensation, and providing for the
submission of this amendment to the qualified voters of the
State of Maryland for their adoption or rejection.
and I do certify that at said election 137,201 votes were cast
in favor of Chapter 431 of the Acts of 1966, and 277,917 votes were
cast against the adoption of said Chapter 431 of the Acts of 1966, the
said Act has therefore failed of ratification.
In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my
name and affixed my official seal at the City of Annapolis
this 9th day of December, 1966.
