I, Lloyd L. Simpkins, Secretary of State of the State of
Maryland, pursuant to the direction contained in Section 172 (c) of
Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1957 Edition), Do
Hereby Certify, that at the General Election held in the State of
Maryland on November 8, 1966, an Act known as Chapter 187 of the
Acts of 1966, was submitted to the voters of the State of Maryland,
pursuant to the provisions of Article 14 of the Constitution of the
State of Maryland, said Act being as follows:
AN ACT to propose an amendment to Section 26 of Article IV of
the Constitution of Maryland, title "Judiciary Department,"
subtitle "Deputy Clerks," by repealing and re-enacting a new
section in lieu thereof, excepting Washington County from
the provision that deputy clerks of court shall be removable
by the respective judges of said courts for incompetency, and
providing for the submission of this amendment to the quali-
fied voters of the State of Maryland for their adoption or
rejection.
and I DO certify that at said election 143,069 votes were cast in
favor of the adoption of Chapter 187 of the Acts of 1966, and 183,164
votes were cast against the adoption of said Chapter 187 of the Acts
of 1966, the said Act has therefore failed of ratification.
In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my
name and affixed my official seal at the City of Annapolis
this 9th day of December, 1966.
