Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Section 17 of Article II of the Maryland
Constitution, I have vetoed today House Bill 344 and am returning
it to you.
The bill, extending the time period during which temporary
registration plates or markers may be used on motor vehicles from
20 days to 30 days, is a duplicate of Senate Bill 183, which has been
signed and is now Chapter 173 of the 1967 Laws of Maryland.

House Bill No. 455—Problems of the Aging
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2 (a)
of Article 70B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition
and 1966 Supplement), title "Commission on the Aging," to provide
for an additional member of the State Coordinating Commission on
Problems of the Aging and that he shall be a representative of the
Maryland Nursing Homo Association, and further provide for the
method of appointment of said member NURSING HOME INDUS-
TRY.

In accordance with Section 17 of Article II of the Maryland
Constitution, I have vetoed today House Bill 455 and am returning
it to you.
This bill would add to the membership of the Maryland Com-
mission on the Aging a special representative of the nursing home
industry.
Although I have signed a similar bill providing for the appoint-
ment of a representative of the nursing home industry to the State
Board of Health and Mental Hygiene, because of my belief that the
industry is intimately involved in matters over which the Board has
jurisdiction and influence and that it will contribute to the knowledge
and perceptivity of the Board, I am compelled to veto this bill because
of my equally strong belief that the Commission on the Aging is
constituted so that any representation of a specific industry or group
