Whereas, These studies enable the states, their political subdi-
visions, and interested groups and organizations to maximize their
use of the travel business they have in order to generate more; now,
therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State is
requested and urged to contract for such a travel survey to be con-
ducted during this year, 1967, and be it further
Resolved, That the Tourism Division of the Economic Develop-
ment Department should participate in the decision of what group
shall make this survey and should cooperate with the consultants
and follow through to make maximum use of the survey; and be it
further
Resolved, That the Governor is requested to include in his supple-
mental budget or to provide out of other funds at his disposal, the sum
of $60,000 for the preparation of this survey.

(House Joint Resolution 10)
House Joint Resolution requesting the continuation of the Legislative
Council's Committee on Tourism.
Whereas, The Legislative Council has been studying the area of
tourism development for two years and has become convinced of its
economic import and vast potential significance for the State of
Maryland; and
Whereas, There are several regions of the State which could
achieve an enormous benefit from increasing their investments and
activities in the area of tourism and recreation; and
Whereas, The State of Maryland has lagged far behind in the de-
velopment of her tourist industry despite the fact that her neighbor-
ing states are among the leaders in this very competitive field; and
Whereas, There are innumerable current reports which deserve
study and as there will be much more activity within this State as
Maryland progresses; and
Whereas, It is extremely important for the Legislature to be kept
currently informed of the various aspects of the State's growth in the
field of tourism; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Legis-
lative Council is hereby urged and requested to appoint another
Legislative Council Committee on Tourism to continue and expand
the work of its former committees on tourism; and be it further
Resolved, That the new Committee on Tourism is requested to re-
port its findings, conclusions and recommendations to the Legislative
Council by October 1, 1967.
