(House Bill 780)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(w)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Supple-
ment), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," pro-
viding that the County Commissioners of Worcester County shall
pay an annual sum as an expense allowance to the Sheriff of
Worcester County and increasing the annual salaries of the Deputy
Sheriffs.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (w) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1966 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation
and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(w) (1) The Sheriff of Worcester County shall receive an
annual salary of $5,500. He shall appoint not less than two deputies
who shall each receive an annual salary of [$4,500.], $5,500 and such
additional deputies at such compensation as may be approved by the
County Commissioners of said county.

(2) The County Commissioners of Worcester County are
hereby authorized to provide the following for the use of the Sheriff's
office for law enforcement at an annual cost not to exceed such
amount as shall be prescribed in the budget by the County Com-
missioners :

(i) Nor more than four automobiles, plus necessary operating
expenses, including, but not limited to, gasoline, oil, insurance and
and repairs;

(ii) Radio equipment;

(iii) Office supplies and equipment.

(8) The County Commissioners shall IN ADDITION provide the
sheriff the sum of twelve hundred dollars ($1200.) annually for the
expenses of his office, PAYABLE IN EQUAL MONTHLY IN-
STALLMENTS FOR HIS PERSONAL EXPENSES IN THE
CONDUCT OF HIS OFFICE.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
