1604                             LAWS OF MARYLAND                        [CH. 735

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 20A be and it is hereby added to the Code of
Public Local Laws of Howard County (1965 Edition, being Article
14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Howard
County," subtitle "Circuit Court," to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 20 thereof, and to read as follows:

20A.

The Circuit Court for Howard County shall appoint a law clerk
to hold his office at the Court's pleasure, who shall receive a salary
TO BE ESTABLISHED BY THE COURT of not less than three
thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500.00), nor more than five thou-
sand dollars ($5,000.00), which salary shall be paid by the County
Commissioners of Howard County. The law clerk shall perform such
duties as may be prescribed by said Court, including those duties per-
formed by a bailiff of said Court, and shall work under the supervision
and direction of the judges of said Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 735
(House Bill 581)

AN ACT to add a new Section 270 to Article 56 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Licenses,"
subtitle "Home Improvement Law," to follow immediately after
Section 269 thereof and to be under new subtitle "General Con-
tractors and Sub-contractors," relating to the establishment of the
function of registering non-resident contractors under the Comp-
troller's office in the division of the License Bureau for certain
general contractors and sub-contractors.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section 270 be and is hereby added to Article 56 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title
"Licenses," to follow immediately after Section 269 thereof and to
read as follows:

270. General Contractors and Sub-contractors
(a) Duties of the Comptroller's office.

It shall be the duty of the Comptroller of the State of Maryland
to establish in the division of the License Bureau, a register list-
ing all non-resident general contractors and sub-contractors. The
Comptroller shall have the power to make such rules and regulations
as he shall deem best, providing the same are not in conflict with
the laws of Maryland. Upon enactment of this subtitle, the Comp-
troller of Maryland shall promulgate such rules and regulations as
he shall deem necessary for the proper maintenance of the register
