Maryland), title "Charles County," subtitle "County Commissioners,"
subheading "Salary Board," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

37.

The County Commissioners are authorized and directed to estab-
lish a board which shall be known as the Salary Board and shall con-
sist of one member of the Board of County Commissioners, desig-
nated by the Chairman, and of the County Treasurer and the Clerk
of the Circuit Court. The Board shall meet from time to time as
necessary to review the salaries paid to the employees in the offices
of the County Commissioners, the County Treasurer, and the Trial
Magistrate for Charles County, the Secretary to the State's Attorney
and of the employees who constitute the fire watch in the county court
house. Notwithstanding any provision of Article 25, Section 51 (g)
of the Annotated Code of Maryland or of Section 35 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Charles County, the Board shall have the
power to review the salaries paid to the Clerk to the County Com-
missioners. The Board shall have the power to make changes in the
salaries of such persons as it deems advisable but in no event shall
any such person be paid a salary in excess of [$5,000] $7,000 per
annum.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 137
(House Bill 421)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 5(e)
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Supple-
ment), title "Elections," subtitle "Supervisors of Elections and
Employees," relating generally to the placement of the chief clerk
and the employees of the Board of Supervisors of Elections under
the Merit System of Prince George's County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5(e) of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Supplement), title "Elections," subtitle "Supervisors of Elec-
tions and Employees," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

5. Appointment of employees.

(e) Prince George's County.—The County Commissioners of
Prince George's County may provide supplementary funds for the
payment of compensation or other expenses which had not been
included in the original appropriation [; provided, however, that
no salaries of permanently employed personnel shall be changed
during any fiscal year. The chief clerk of the Board shall receive
an annual salary of not less than $5,200.00 but may, commensurate
