AN ACT to add new Sections 181-L through 181-X to Article 41 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title
"Governor—Executive and Administrative Departments" to be
under a new subtitle "The Maryland Environmental Trust," and
to follow immediately after Section 181-K thereof, providing
generally for the creation of the Maryland Environmental Trust,
its purposes and term of existence, the selection, terms, powers
and duties of its trustees, the general government of the trust,
certain matters relating to the acquisition, receipt, investment, use
and disposition by the trust of appropriations, gifts, grants of real
and personal property, and other property, and other matters in-
cident thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 181-L through 181-X be and they are hereby
added to Article 41 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Re-
placement Volume), title "Governor, Executive and Administrative
Departments," to be under a new subtitle "The Maryland Environ-
mental Trust," to follow immediately after Section 181-K thereof,
and to read as follows:
181-L.
The Maryland Environmental Trust
The Maryland Environmental Trust is hereby created for the pur-
pose of conserving, improving, stimulating, and perpetuating the
aesthetic, natural, health and welfare, scenic, and cultural qualities of
the environment, including but not limited to land, water, air, wild-
life scenic qualities, open spaces, buildings or any interest therein,
and other appurtenances pertaining in any way to the State of Mary-
land, and through educational and other media to encourage and
motivate the populace of the State and others to do so, and to pro-
mote continuing interest in and the study of such matters.

The purpose of the Maryland Environmental Trust is declared to be
of general benefit to the citizens of the State of Maryland and chari-
table in nature. The Trust shall have perpetual existence subject to
modification by the General Assembly of the State of Maryland if the
same is necessary to effectuate the purpose of the Trust, and subject
to termination by the General Assembly when and if its substantial
purpose ceases.

The powers and duties of the Maryland Environmental Trust shall
vest in and be exercised by a Board of twelve trustees. In addition,
