the merit system law, subject to transfer from one institution to
another by the Department of Mental Hygiene, provided the super-
intendents of the respective institutions agree to the transfer and
provided that no reduction in salary is made.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

(Senate Bill 655)
AN ACT to add new Section 185(c) to the Code of Public Local
Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edition, being Article 19 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Sheriff" to
follow immediately after Section 185 (b) thereof, as last amended
by Chapter 620 of the Acts of 1965; authorizing the Sheriff of
St. Mary's County to appoint additional deputy sheriffs to serve
at his pleasure and without compensation.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 185(c) be and it is hereby added to the Code of
Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edition, being Ar-
ticle 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Sheriff" to follow immediately after Section 185 (b) thereof, as
last amended by Chapter 620 of the Acts of 1965, to read as follows:
185(c)
Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (a) of this Section,
the sheriff may appoint such additional deputies as he may deem
necessary, such deputies to serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff and
without compensation.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
