payments to be made in monthly installments during the service,
on the presentation of the certificate of the judges of said court,
to the County Commissioners certifying to the services of said court
stenographer. And the said County Commissioners or County Council
of the several counties are hereby directed and empowered to pro-
vide for the payment of their several portions of the salary of the
said stenographer at once on presentation of said certificates. The
several judges of the respective circuit courts are authorized to pro-
vide for the employment of an additional court stenographer or court
stenographers, when in their joint discretion the volume of work
requires, at the same compensation as provided above.
Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That Section 6 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Somerset County (1963 Edition, being Article
20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Somerset
County," subtitle "Circuit Court," subheading "Court Stenographer,"
as last amended by Chapter 442 of the Acts of 1966, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
6.
(a) The salary of said stenographer shall be [eight thousand
five hundred dollars ($8,500) per year] determined and set by the
Judges of the First Judicial Circuit, said salary to be paid as fol-
lows: The County Commissioners of Dorchester County, [Wicomico
County,] Somerset County and Worcester County and the County
Council of Wicomico County shall each pay an amount of the salary
specified as directed and certified by the judges of the circuit, said
payments to be made in monthly installments during the service, on
the presentation of the certificate of the judges of said court, to the
County Commissioners certifying to the services of said court stenog-
rapher. And the said County Commissioners or County Council of the
several counties are hereby directed and empowered to provide for
the payment of their several portions of the salary of the said stenog-
rapher at once on presentation of said certificates. The several judges
of the respective circuit courts are authorized to provide for the em-
ployment of an additional court stenographer or court stenographers,
when in their joint discretion the volume of work requires, at the
same compensation as provided above.
Sec. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

AN ACT to repeal Section 24 (b) of Article 89B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "State Roads",
subtitle "In General", subheading "Bids over five hundred thou-
sands dollars", and to enact in lieu thereof new Section 24 (b)
title "State Roads", subtitle "In General", under the new subhead-
ing, "Bids under one million dollars" permitting bidders on State
