issuance of temporary registration plates; (2) vehicles jointly owned
and transferred to one name of either owner; (3) involuntary trans-
fers resulting from divorce or separation proceedings; (4) vehicles
acquired by insurance companies as a result of fire, theft, or collision
claims; (5) involuntary transfers of motor vehicles to a registered
dealer when no certificate of title is available.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1967.

AN ACT to add new Section 23 (9) to Article 66˝ of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1966 Supplement),
title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration—Registration—
Titling", to follow immediately after Section 23 (8) thereof, to
provide for the applicability of the State motor vehicle registra-
tion laws to leased or rented trailers or semi-trailers registered in
another state but used within this State, to require a percentage
of such trailers to be registered in this State for intra-state oper-
ation, and to provide for the duties of owners of such trailers.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 23 (9) be and it is hereby added to Article 66˝ of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1966 Supple-
ment), title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration—Registra-
tion—Titling", to follow immediately after Section 23 (8) thereof,
and to read as follows:
23.
(9) Any trailer or semi-trailer having a chassis weight not in
excess of one thousand (1000) pounds which is duly registered in
another state, may be rented or leased for intra-state operation, if
the owner of said trailer or semi-trailer has registered annually in
this State a number of trailers or semi-trailers equal to or in excess
of the average number of trailers or semi-trailers said owner will
have available annually in this State for intra-state operations. The
Department shall require every such owner to file annually at such
time and in such manner as shall be prescribed by the Department
a statement under affidavit of total annual registration in all states,
total annual registration in this State, and the average total number
of trailers available for rent or lease annually in this Stater; PRO-
VIDED THIS SECTION SHALL APPLY ONLY TO TRAILERS
OR SEMI-TRAILERS PULLED BY CLASS "A" VEHICLES.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
