CHAPTER 429
(Senate Bill 126)

AN ACT to add new Section 106 (k) to Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Public
Education", subtitle "Chapter 8. Teachers' Certificates, Salaries
and Pensions", subheading "In General", to follow immediately
after Section 106 (j) thereof, to provide for a duty-free lunch
period of a specified duration for teachers in public schools in the
counties and Baltimore City AND and , to authorize employment of
teacher-aides for these lunch periods... AND TO ALLOW THE
BOARD IN THE COUNTIES AND BALTIMORE CITY TO
COMPENSATE TEACHERS ELECTING TO WORK DURING
THIS PERIOD.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 106 (k) be and it is hereby added to Article 77 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title
"Public Education", subtitle "Chapter 8. Teachers' Certificates,
Salaries and Pensions", subheading "In General", to follow immedi-
ately after Section 106 (j) thereof, and to read as follows:

106.

(k) Every teacher in the public elementary and public secondary
schools in the counties and in Baltimore City shall be provided with
a duty-free lunch period each regularly scheduled school day. The
period shall extend for at least thirty minutes, but where the pupils
have a regular lunch period of less than thirty minutes, the duty-free
period shall coincide with such regular period of less than thirty
minutes. The Board of Education in each county and the Board of
School Commissioners in Baltimore City may employ teacher-aides
for this purpose.
THE BOARD IN ANY COUNTY OR THE BOARD
OF SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS IN BALTIMORE CITY MAY

ESTABLISH REGULATIONS ALLOWING ANY TEACHER TO
CONTINUE TO WORK DURING THIS PERIOD AND IN SUCH
EVENT THE TEACHER SHALL BE
COMPENSATED FOR THE
TIME OF THE LUNCH PERIOD,

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 430
(Senate Bill 136)

AN ACT to add new Section 406A to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Health",
subtitle "Water, Ice and Sewerage", to follow immediately after
Section 406 thereof, to protect the public health and to conserve
and protect the water resources of the State; to provide for classi-
fying of all water works, wastewater works and industrial waste-
