Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect

(Senate Bill 579)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 77 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's County (1965 Edi-
tion, being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "St. Mary's County", subtitle "Fire Companies",
authorizing the County Commissioners to make certain discre-
tionary payments to rescue squads in St. Mary's County based on
the number of calls to which such squads respond, establishing
the purposes to which such payments are to be applied, subdi-
viding the applicable section of the County Code, and relating
generally to supplementary payments to rescue squads in St.
Mary's County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 77 of the Code of Public Local Laws of St. Mary's
County (1965 Edition, being Article 19 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "St. Mary's County", subtitle "Fire Com-
panies", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

77. (a) The County Commissioners are hereby authorized to pay
annually from the general county funds a base sum not to exceed
fifteen hundred dollars ($l,500) TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS
($2,000) each, to so many of the active rescue squads in St. Mary's
County as they shall determine.

(b) In addition to the above, the County Commissioners are author-
ized to pay to any such squad which has responded to a number of
calls in excess of two hundred in any year, an additional sum of
two hundred dollars ($200) for each one hundred calls responded
to in excess of the first two hundred in such year. Unless the County
Commissioners shall otherwise direct, any additional sum paid
under this subsection shall be used exclusively for the purchase of
medical supplies and the maintenance of existing equipment, and
any squad receiving any such additional sum shall maintain records
detailing the expenditure thereof which shall always be open to the
inspection of the County Commissioners.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1966.
