title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration—Registration—
Titling", to regulate the use of motor vehicle registration plates
where a person purchases a vehicle from a dealer and trades in a
vehicle on the purchase and to permit use of current registration
plates from a traded-in vehicle on a newly purchased vehicle.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 46 of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration—
Registration—Titling", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

46.

Whenever a sale of a motor vehicle is made by a duly registered
dealer and [the dealer has taken in trade another motor vehicle
registered under the laws of this State] the purchaser possesses
current registration plates issued to another motor vehicle registered
under the laws of this State, and such registration plates are trans-
ferable pursuant to the provisions of this Article,
such dealer may
issue only one permit which shall authorize the purchaser to use on
the vehicle so purchased the current registration plates belonging to
the vehicle so taken in trade for a period not exceeding fifteen (15)
days from the date of the sale, provided the dealer shall give to such
purchaser permission so to use such plates, said permission to be in
substitution for registration cards and to be on forms to be furnished
to dealers by the Department, which said permission shall bear the
signature of the dealer and shall be displayed as registration cards
are now required to be displayed, provided the requirements in Sec-
tion 47 (b) have been complied with.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 537
(Senate Bill 261)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 43 (b) of
Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration—Registration—
Titling", to limit the transferability of registration plates removed
from a motor vehicle which has been sold, to permit transfer only
to another vehicle of the same classification, to fix the fee for
transfer and to correct the wording of this section.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 43 (b) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Administration
—Registration—Titling", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
