be disapproved if the rates thereby produced meet the requirements
of this section.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 480
(House Bill 896)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2 (a) of
Article 40 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"General Assembly," subtitle "Mileage, Pay and Stationery,"
amending the laws concerning salary payments to the members of
the General Assembly in order that these provisions will be in accord
with the salary provisions of Section 15 of Article 3 of the Constitu-
tion of Maryland.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2 (a) of Article 40 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "General Assembly," subtitle "Mileage, Pay and
Stationery," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

(a) The State Comptroller is hereby authorized and directed
to pay to each member of the General Assembly, in accordance with
the provisions of Section 15 of Article 3 of the Constitution of
Maryland, on the first day of January, April, July and October, each
year, beginning with January, [1959] 1967, the sum of [four hundred
and fifty dollars ($450.00)] six hundred dollars ($600.00) each, ex-
cept that the presiding officer of each house shall be paid the sum of
[five hundred and twelve dollars and fifty cents ($512.50)] six hun-
dred sixty-two dollars and fifty cents ($662.50)
on each of said days,
provided, however, that the first quarterly payment to any newly
elected or appointed member or to any re-elected member of the
General Assembly shall be made only after such newly elected, ap-
pointed or re-elected member has qualified and taken the oath of office.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.
