not less than five dollars ($5.00) nor more than one hundred dol-
lars ($100.00) or by imprisonment not to exceed sixty days or by
both such fine and imprisonment. For a second or subsequent con-
viction of violation of subsection (a) of this section, the following
penalties are applicable, fine not to exceed five hundred dollars
($500.00), or imprisonment not to exceed six months, or both.

112.

Any person, resident or nonresident, whose operator's or chauf-
feur's license, registration card, or other driving privilege has been
refused, cancelled, suspended, or revoked for any reason as pro-
vided in this article, or as provided in the applicable law of the
jurisdiction which issued the nonresident's license, registration card
or other driving privilege, and who drives any motor vehicle upon
the highways of this State while such license, card or privilege is
refused, cancelled, suspended, or revoked, is guilty of a misdemeanor
and upon conviction shall be punishable by a fine of not less than
one hundred ($100.00) dollars nor more than one thousand ($1,-
000.00) dollars or by imprisonment for not less than thirty (30)
days nor more than six (6) months, or both such fine and imprison-
ment. Upon a second or subsequent conviction under the provisions
of this section, the [same penalties shall apply] following penalties
shall be applicable, fine of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00)
nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00), or imprisonment
for not more than one year, or both,
except that imprisonment for
at least 30 days shall be mandatory, provided, however, that the
mandatory provisions of this section may be suspended or modified
by the judges of the circuit courts of the several counties and the
judges of the municipal and criminal courts of Baltimore City and
the magistrate's court of Baltimore County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 392
(House Bill 642)

AN ACT to repeal subsection (d-2) of Section 341 of Article 66½
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1965 Sup-
plement), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Offenses and Prosecu-
tions," and to enact in lieu thereof a new subsection (d-2) of
Section 341 to stand in the place of the subsection so repealed,
to change the limitation upon the amount paid for the salaries
and expenses of the Department of Maryland State Police and
the State Police Retirement System of the State of Maryland
from certain fines, penalties, and forfeitures of bonds or other
authorized securities imposed or collected under the provisions of
said Article.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That subsection (d-2) of Section 341 of Article 66½ of the Annotated
