CHAPTER 253
(Senate Bill 133)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 268A of
Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1965 Supple-
ment), title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Operation of Vehicles
Upon Highways", to provide that municipalities may enact legisla-
tion relating to the duty of drivers of vehicles to stop when meeting
or overtaking a stopped school bus.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 268A of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land, (1965 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles", subtitle "Operation
of Vehicles Upon Highways", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, and to read as follows:

268A.

Nothing contained in this article shall be construed to prohibit
towns and cities not subject to the school bus provisions of this article
from enacting legislation upon the subject of school busses within
the reasonable exercise of their police powers. This shall include the
right of towns and cities to enact legislation relating to the duty of
drivers of vehicles to stop when meeting or overtaking a stopped
school bus,;
PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT ANY ENACTMENT
HEREUNDER SHALL BE CONSISTENT WITH THE PROVI-
SIONS OF SECTION 259 OF THIS ARTICLE.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

AN ACT to repeal Sections 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 106, 107 and 108
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Howard County (1965 Edition,
being Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Howard County", subtitles respectively "Terms", "Return
Day", "Bailiff's Compensation", "Writs-Returnable", "Defendant,
failure to appear" and "Desertion", repealing obsolete and outdated
local Howard County laws as relating to the Circuit Court and
more specifically "Terms", "Return Day", "Bailiff's Compensation",
"Writs-Returnable", "Defendant, failure to appear" and "De-
sertion".
