part thereof shall be certified to the Board of County Commissioners
and to the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Howard County for record.
(c) Before any rules or regulations are adopted by the Planning
Commission, a public hearing shall be held thereon and all such regu-
lations, or, if in the opinion of the Planning Commission it is best, a
brief synopsis of such regulations, sufficient to inform a person of
ordinary intelligence of the nature and contents of such regulations,
together with the time and place of such public hearing, shall be pub-
lished once or more, if the Planning Commission deems best, in a
weekly newspaper published and in general circulation in Howard
County. When such regulations are adopted by the Planning Com-
mission, a copy thereof shall be certified by said Commission to the
Clerk of the Circuit Court for Howard County, for record,
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

(Senate Bill 454)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (m)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Supple-
ment) , title "Sheriffs", subtitle "Compensation and Duties", to pro-
vide an increase in salaries for the deputy sheriffs in Howard
County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (m) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1965 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", subtitle "Compensation and
Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
37.
(m) The Sheriff of Howard County shall receive an annual salary
of $7,200. He shall appoint [two] one [deputies] deputy who shall
receive an annual salary of [$4,800 each] fifty-eight hundred dollars
($5,800) and [may in his discretion] he shall also appoint an addi-
tional [deputy] two deputies at an annual salary of [$4,000] five
thousand dollars ($5,000) all of whom shall hold office at the pleasure
of the Sheriff and be removed at any time the Sheriff may elect, or
by the Circuit Court for Howard County upon indictment and con-
viction as provided by law. The County Commissioners may pre-
scribe and provide for the payment of the traveling and other ex-
penses of the Sheriff and said deputies. The Sheriff may also appoint
temporarily such additional deputy sheriffs as he may deem necessary
for the public safety and the County Commissioners shall allow rea-
sonable compensation for same, but such deputies shall not serve
longer than the case actually warrants.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1966.
