(Senate Joint Resolution 50)
Senate Joint Resolution requesting the County Commissioners of St.
Mary's County to study the recommendations of the Beautification
Committee of that County, for purposes of incorporating plans,
and procedures, for the correction of soil erosion, preservation of
economy, and beautification of public and private lands and roads.
Whereas, Sediment control should become a stated policy of the
county government of St. Mary's County and all concerned public
agencies operating in or having jurisdiction in the county; and
Whereas, Land administered by the county should be operated in
a manner to set an example of good land use and sediment control,
in order to preserve and protect the oyster beds and economy of St.
Mary's County; and
Whereas, Standards and specifications for county roads should
include adequate erosion and sediment control measures, particularly
for roadbanks, and
Whereas, The County should investigate the possibility of planting
road shoulders to a traffic-resistant grass; and
Whereas, The county should enforce present regulations designed
to prevent erosion during lumbering and logging operations; now,
therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the County
Commissioners of St. Mary's County are urged to study the recom-
mendations presented by the Beautification Committee and take
whatever action necessary in providing that the land on which we
live will pass to those who come after without the ugly scars of erosion
to mar its natural beauty, and will provide protection for the economy
Of the county; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to the County Com-
missioners of St. Mary's County.
