scribed. Such exemptions shall be allowed and prorated by the
assessing authority for the remainder of any taxable year from the
date the claimant shall have acquired title to the real property
intended to be exempt hereunder.

(c)   Return of Taxes. The governing body of each municipality,
by appropriate resolution, may return all taxes collected on property
which would have been exempt had proper claim in writing been
made therefor in the manner provided hereunder; provided, how-
ever, that such refunds shall not be made for any year or portion
thereof prior to June 1, 1950.

(d)   Meaning of "Dwelling House". "Dwelling house", as used
herein shall mean any one-family or two-family building or struc-
ture owned and occupied by a claimant as his legal residence in this
State, and includes any outhouses or appurtenances belonging
thereto or usually enjoyed therewith.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 498
(Senate Bill 130)

AN ACT to add new Section 8A to Article 65 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), (1964 REPLACEMENT VOL-
UME), title "Militia", sub-title "In General", to follow immedi-
ately after Section 8 thereof, providing that members of the Mary-
land National Guard, whether on active or inactive duty
status,
including persons designated as
National Guard On Site Techni-
cians, who are serving at
military installations within this State
under the control or jurisdiction of the
THAT MEMBERS OF
THE MARYLAND NATIONAL GUARD DESIGNATED AS
NATIONAL GUARD ON-SITE TECHNICIANS WHO ARE
UNDER THE CONTROL OR JURISDICTION OF THE Military
Department, State of Maryland, shall, in and for the military area
to which assigned, AND WHILE ACTING IN SUCH CAPACITY
have the same police power, authority and immunities as Con-
stables, Sheriffs, Police or Peace Officers possess within their
respective jurisdictions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 8A be and it is hereby added to Article 65 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), (1964 REPLACE-
MENT VOLUME), title "Militia", sub-title "In General", to follow
immediately after Section 8 thereof, and to read as follows:

8A.

All members of the Maryland National Guard, whether on active
or inactive duty status, including all
