obsolete provisions relating to automobile allowance, and increas-
ing the authorized number of jail wardens in Frederick County.
AND ELIMINATING THE REQUIREMENT OF APPROVAL
OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AS TO THE NUMBER
OF ADDITIONAL SPECIAL DEPUTIES WHO MAY BE AP-
POINTED BY THE SHERIFF.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(j) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation
and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

37.

(j) The Sheriff of Frederick County shall receive an annual salary
of [$5,400.] $7,500 in addition to lodging furnished him and his
family [and shall be allowed $300 for annual depreciation of his
automobile]. He shall appoint such deputies as may be necessary who
shall each receive not less than $2,400 per year [, each of whom shall
be allowed $300 for the annual depreciation of their automobiles],
and as many jail wardens as may be necessary, not to exceed [three
(3)] six (6), at an annual salary of not less than $1,320 each. The
Sheriff may appoint such additional special deputies as he may deem
necessary, with the approval of the County Commissioners, as to
number and compensation.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not affect
the salary of the sheriff of Frederick County during the term of office
existing on the effective date of this Act.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That subject to the provisions
of Section 2 above, this Act shall take effect June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 490
(Senate Bill 503)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 120 and
121 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Kent County (1959
Edition, being Article 15 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Kent County", sub-title "County Commis-
sioners", raising the present ceiling on monies spent by Kent
County or controlled by bids accepted annually by the County
Commissioners from county newspapers for printing and publish-
ing expenses to the county.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 120 and 121 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Kent
County (1959 Edition, being Article 15 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Kent County", sub-title "County Com-
missioners", be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
