668                              LAWS OF MARYLAND                      [CH. 475

Dollars ($3,000) to the Galena Volunteer Fire Company, the sum of
[Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500)] Four Thousand
Dollars ($4,000)
to the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company and
the sum of [One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500)] Three
Thousand Dollars ($3,000)
to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company
and the sum of [One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500)]
Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000) to the Kennedyville Volunteer Fire
Department and the said County Commissioners are authorized to
levy yearly upon the assessable property of Kent County a rate of
tax sufficient to produce the sum or sums so to be annually paid to
the said fire companies.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 475
(Senate Bill 127)

AN ACT to add new Section 149A(c) to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1964 Supplement), title "Health", sub-title
"Practitioners of Medicine", to follow immediately after Section
149A (b) thereof and to govern liability of Registered Nurses and
Licensed Practical Nurses for civil damages under certain circum-
stances.
TO PROVIDE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES
THAT REGISTERED NURSES AND LICENSED PRACTICAL
NURSES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR CIVIL DAMAGES
FOR MEDICAL AID, CARE AND ASSISTANCE RENDERED
AT AN ACCIDENT, WITH EXCEPTIONS, AND PROVIDING
A DEFENSE TO SUITS ARISING OUT OF SERVICES REN-
DERED AT AN ACCIDENT.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 149A(c) of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Supplement), title "Health", sub-title "Practitioners
of Medicine", to follow immediately after Section 149A(b) thereof, to
read as follows:

149A.

       (c) Registered Nurses under this Article and Licensed Practical

Nurses under this Articles shall not be liable for damages as provided

in subsection (a) except for gross negligence, and shall have the

defense provided therein, except for gross negligence.

(C) REGISTERED NURSES UNDER THIS ARTICLE AND
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES UNDER THIS ARTICLE
SHALL HAVE THE SAME IMMUNITY FROM CIVIL DAMAGES
AND THE SAME DEFENSES AS ARE PROVIDED IN SUB-
SECTION (A) FOR PHYSICIANS.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.
