626                              LAWS OF MARYLAND                      [CH. 435

CHAPTER 435
(House Bill 351)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 313 SEC-
TIONS 313 AND 314 of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Cumulative Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles,"
subtitle "Operations of Vehicles upon Highways," increasing the
maximum height of vehicles on certain highways of the State of
Maryland to 13 feet 6 inches., AND RELATING TO CERTAIN
DAMAGES RESULTING FROM A COLLISION BETWEEN A
MOTOR VEHICLE AND A BRIDGE WITH A CLEARANCE
LESS THAN 13'6", AND PERMITTING THE TRANSPORTA-
TION ON THE HIGHWAYS OF SOME ARTICLES NOT CAPA-
BLE OF DISMEMBERMENT WHICH DO NOT EXCEED A
SPECIFIED LENGTH.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 313 SECTIONS 313 AND 314 of Article 66½ of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Cumulative Supplement), title
"Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Operations of Vehicles upon Highways,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

313.

Height of Vehicles

       No vehicle including any load thereon shall exceed a height of

12 feet 6 inches except that motor transport carriers of automobiles
including any load thereon and
motor vehicles carrying plate and

nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the operation

other flat glass may be 13 feet 6 inches. Provided, however, that

loaded with hay or straw in bound bales and having an over-all

height when loaded not in excess of 13 feet 6 inches [.] provided

further, however, that vehicles on the highways of the interstate and
primary system and such roads in the secondary system as designated
by the State Roads Commission the maximum height permitted

thereon shall be 13 feet 6 inches.

313.

NO VEHICLE INCLUDING ANY LOAD THEREON SHALL
EXCEED A HEIGHT OF 13 FEET 6 INCHES PROVIDED, HOW-
EVER, THE USERS OF HIGHWAYS ON WHICH BRIDGES
WITH A CLEARANCE OF LESS THAN 13' 6" ARE LOCATED
SHALL SAVE HARMLESS THE OWNERS OF SUCH BRIDGES
FROM ANY CAUSE OF ACTION INSTITUTED AGAINST SUCH
OWNERS FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY COLLIDING WITH
SUCH BRIDGES PROVIDED SUCH DAMAGE IS THE PROXI-
MATE RESULT OF THE HEIGHT OF SUCH BRIDGE OR
BRIDGES.

314.

NO VEHICLE OR COMBINATION OF VEHICLES INCLUDING
THE LOAD THEREON SHALL EXCEED 55 FEET IN LENGTH
