(House Bill 426)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 58 (b)
of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Supple-
ment), title "Courts," subtitle "Juvenile Causes," authorizing peace
or probation officers in Charles County to take into custody a
child where such child is reasonably believed to be a fugitive from
his parents or from justice, or where immediate action is necessary
to protect his health, morals or safety.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 58 (b) of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitle "Juvenile Causes," be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
58.
(b) In Charles and Prince George's County subject to the condi-
tions in subsection (a) therein of this section as to detention, any
peace officer or probation officer shall have the authority to take into
custody any child who is reasonably believed to be a fugitive from
his parents or from justice, or whose surroundings are such as to
endanger his health, morals, or safety unless immediate action is
taken.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 395
(House Bill 443)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 18 and
19 (1) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964
Replacement Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle
"Criminal Jurisdiction," to permit justices of the peace in Kent
County CARROLL AND KENT COUNTIES to allow a person to
pay his costs and/or fine in installments and to allow the justices
of the peace to suspend sentences and grant probation before
verdict.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 18 and 19 (1) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Justices of the Peace,"
subtitle "Criminal Jurisdiction," be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Any provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding, in any case
where a justice of the peace in and for Queen Anne's, Prince George's,
