53.

The provisions of the foregoing section in this subtitle shall only
apply to Allegany, Baltimore, Cecil, Harford and Washington coun-
ties, but the powers conferred by virtue hereof upon members of
fire companies shall not apply or be exercised in incorporated cities,
towns or villages which maintain an organized or regular police
force.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 385
(House Bill 347)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 99C of
Article 89B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition,
1964 Replacement Volume) title "State Roads," subtitle "Bridges,"
changing the date for imposing or changing tolls from May 1, 1965
to May 1, 1967 1966, on the Sinepuxent Bay Bridge.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 99C of Article 89B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition, 1964 Replacement Volume) title "State Roads," sub-
title "Bridges," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

99C.

The Commission is hereby authorized to provide for the charge
and collection of tolls for the use of such structure at such rate or
rates as the Commission shall, from time to time, determine. The
rate of tolls for the various types of vehicles using such structure
and the manner and method of collecting same shall be determined
by the Commission, provided, however, the structure shall be a "free
structure" and no tolls shall be imposed or charged until [May 1,
1965.] May 1, 1967 MAY 1, 1966. The Commission shall take such
action as it deems appropriate to advise the public that tolls will be
imposed on and after [May 1, 1965.] May 1, 1967 MAY 1, 1966.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency" measure and necessary for the immediate preser-
vation of the public health and safety, and having been passed by a
yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of the members elected
to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
