No person shall stand or loiter in or on an expressway or ap-
proaches thereof for the purpose of soliciting a ride from the driver
of any motor vehicle, except therefore, the operator or passenger of
a disabled motor vehicle who is seeking the aid or assistance from
the driver of another vehicle.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

(House Bill 436)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 108(18)
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magistrate
System," to increase the salary of the Trial Magistrate of St. Mary's
County effective upon the next term of office.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 108 (18) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," sub-
title "Trial Magistrate System," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
108.
(18) There shall be one trial magistrate who shall sit at Leonard-
town and who shall receive an annual salary of [$5,000.00] $6,500.00.
The said trial magistrate may direct the substitute trial magistrate
hereinafter referred to, to sit at such time and place as public con-
venience may necessitate. Neither the trial magistrate nor the sub-
stitute shall act as attorney in the trial of any cases before the
magistrate's court during their respective tenures in office.
The State's Attorney shall be available to attend trials before said
magistrate and to render such legal advice in criminal matters as
the said trial magistrate may request.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the Trial Magistrate of
St. Mary's County in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act shall take effect with the next term of office.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1965.
