for future payment, though not intended to be performed, shall not be
sufficient to authorize a conviction under this section. In Wicomico
County [and in], St. Mary's County, and in Caroline County AND
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY where the amount of money
or the value of the thing received does not exceed three hun-
dred dollars ($300.00), the People's Court and the trial magis-
trates, respectively, shall have concurrent jurisdiction with the
circuit court to try persons charged with violating this section and
Sections 142 and 144 of this article, provided that persons so con-
victed in the people's court or trial magistrate's court shall not be
sentenced to the penitentiary by that court. In Baltimore City where
the amount of money or the value of the thing received does not ex-
ceed one hundred dollars ($100.00), the Municipal Court of Balti-
more City shall have jurisdiction to try persons charged with violating
this section, provided that persons so convicted in the Municipal
Court shall not be sentenced to the penitentiary by that court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 236
(House Bill 354)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 255 (a)
and 255 (e) of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964
Replacement Volume), title "Testamentary Law," subtitle "Or-
phans' Court," and to add new Section 255 (w) to follow immedi-
ately after Section 255 (v) thereof, providing for salary and
eliminating travel allowance of judges of the Orphans' Court for
Howard County*, EFFECTIVE AS OF JANUARY 1, 1967, AND
INCREASING THE TRAVEL ALLOWANCE OF THE SAID
JUDGES, EFFECTIVE FROM JUNE 1, 1965 UNTIL JANUARY
1, 1967.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 255 (a) and 255 (e) of Article 93 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Testamentary
Law," subtitle "Orphans' Court," be and they are hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, and to add new Section 255 (w)
to follow immediately after Section 255 (v) thereof, and all to read
as follows:

255.

(a) The judges of the orphans' courts of the several counties
and Baltimore City shall receive compensation as herein prescribed,
said compensation to be paid monthly[:], except as provided.

(e) Each of the judges of the orphans' court for Carroll, Queen
Anne's, Somerset, and Worcester counties shall receive the sum of
eight dollars ($8.00) for every day's attendance upon the sessions
of said court. The judges of the Orphans' Court for Worcester County
