as of July 1, 1965, shall receive annually the sum of five hundred
dollars ($500) for expenses. There shall also be one associate trial
magistrate who shall receive an annual salary of [$1,000.00] fifteen
hundred dollars ($1,500). During the temporary absence or inability
of the trial magistrate, the associate shall serve in his place with
the same authority and power as the trial magistrate. In such case
he shall receive from the County Commissioners the same prorata
amount as compensation that the magistrate would have received,
and the same expenses the magistrate would have received. The
salary of the magistrate shall in such cases be diminished by a sum
necessary to compensate the associate magistrate for any period of
absence or inability in excess of thirty days in any one year. The
Sheriff of Kent County and his deputies are hereby authorized,
directed and required to serve all civil and criminal process issued
by said magistrate.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the trial magistrate in
office on the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this
Act shall take effect with the next term of office.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1965.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 25 (a)
of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume), title "Juries," subtitle ''Qualification and Selection of
Jurors," to change the per diem compensation of jurors in Kent
County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 25 (a) of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume), title "Juries," subtitle "Qualification
and Selection of Jurors," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
25.
(a) Jurors in Washington County shall receive eight dollars per
day and a reasonable amount, in the discretion of the County Com-
missioners for each mile over five miles in going to and returning
from court; in [Kent,] Queen Anne's and Caroline counties, and in
Baltimore City, seven dollars and fifty cents per day; in Somerset
County, seven dollars and fifty cents per day; in Anne Arundel, Kent
and Montgomery counties, ten dollars per day, and no extra allowance
shall be given either for mileage or overtime in Anne Arundel and
Montgomery counties; in Carroll County, eight dollars per day; in
