within such county, city, town or other political subdivision, to the
same extent as if such time had been specified in State law or ordi-
nance; provided, however, that nothing in this section shall apply
to the sale of alcoholic beverages in Anne Arundel [, and Washington
counties] County.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 808
(House Bill 653)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 299 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition,
being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Baltimore City," subtitle "Criers, Bailiffs, Watchmen and
Stenographers," as last amended by Chapters 252 and 451 of the
Acts of 1963; increasing the salaries and pensions of the court
stenographers of the several courts of Baltimore City.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 299 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Baltimore City
(1949 Edition, being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Baltimore City," subtitle "Criers, Bailiffs, Watch-
men and Stenographers," as last amended by Chapters 252 and 451
of the Acts of 1963; be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments to read as follows:

299.

The Judges of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City are authorized
and directed to appoint from time to time as many court steno-
graphers as shall in their discretion be required for the services of the
several courts of Baltimore City, and as may be provided for from
time to time in the annual Ordinance of Estimates, who shall be
sworn officers of the Court, and shall each be paid a salary of [Seven
Thousand Dollars ($7,000)] Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000) per
annum when such stenographers shall be required to attend the courts
regularly, or thirty dollars per diem for each day of actual employ-
ment when he shall be appointed to attend only when his services shall
be specially required by the judges; the said salaries to be in like
manner as the salaries of the other officers of the courts are now paid,
as prescribed in Section 293. Every official court stenographer of the
Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, including the stenographer as-
signed to the Grand Jury, who after having served twenty five pre-
ceding consecutive years, shall attain the age of sixty years while in
office or have become physically or mentally incapacitated from per-
forming the duties of court stenographer from ailments or accidents
not resulting from any of his misconduct, shall be entitled to retire-
ment with a salary of [$2,000.00] $4,000.00 per annum, payable as
other official stenographers' salaries are now paid, provided that such
