Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 33 (a-1) of Article 66½ of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Ad-
ministration-Registration-Titling," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

33.

(a-1) [The Treasurer of Baltimore City shall also act as the agent
of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the registration of Class A
passenger or pleasure type motor vehicles, as provided for in this
section; and, it shall receive and account for the fees set forth in
this section to the same extent as in the case of each county treasurer
under this section.] Baltimore City shall leave the decision as to
whether or not the Treasurer of Baltimore City shall act as the
agent of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in the registration of
Class A passenger or pleasure type motor vehicles as provided for
in this section, to the Board of Estimates by appropriate resolution;

and if the Board of Estimates shall decide that the Treasurer of

Baltimore City shall act as the agent of the Commission of Motor

Vehicles, as provided for herein, said Treasurer shall receive and

account for the fees set forth in this section to the same extent as

in the case of each county treasurer under this section. IN BALTI-

MORE CITY THE BOARD OF ESTIMATES SHALL DETERMINE
FROM TIME TO TIME WHETHER OR NOT AN OFFICE OR DE-
PARTMENT OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT SHALL ACT
AS THE AGENT OF THE COMMISSIONER OF MOTOR VE-
HICLES IN THE REGISTRATION OF CLASS A PASSENGER
OR PLEASURE TYPE MOTOR VEHICLES, AND THE BOARD
OF ESTIMATES SHALL DETERMINE WHICH OFFICE OR DE-
PARTMENT OF THE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT SHALL PER-
FORM THIS FUNCTION. THESE DECISIONS FOR THE REG-
ISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES FOR ANY YEAR SHALL
BE MADE NOT LATER THAN THE FIRST DAY OF OCTOBER
NEXT PROCEEDING PRECEDING AND THE BOARD OF ESTI-
MATES PROMPTLY SHALL NOTIFY THE COMMISSIONER OF
MOTOR VEHICLES OF THE DECISIONS. IF AN OFFICE OR
DEPARTMENT OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF
BALTIMORE IS THUS TO ACT AS THE AGENT OF THE COM-
MISSIONER OF MOTOR VEHICLES, IT SHALL RECEIVE AND
ACCOUNT FOR THE FEES PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION AS
IS REQUIRED FOR COUNTY TREASURERS PERFORMING
THIS FUNCTION.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.
