maining three deputies shall receive annual salaries of $4,200.00 each
with annual increments, subject to the approval of the Sheriff of
$200.00, subject to a maximum annual salary of $5,000.00. The dep-
uty sheriffs shall perform all the duties heretofore performed by the
constables to the trial magistrates' courts of Cecil County. From and
after the appointment of one or more of such deputy sheriffs, any
references to constables, as applied to Cecil County, in any law shall
be construed to apply to deputy sheriffs. The Sheriff and deputy
sheriffs shall be entitled to an expense allowance for travel at the rate
of ten cents (10
¢) per mile actually traveled, to be paid monthly upon
vouchers submitted by the Sheriff to the County Commissioners of
Cecil County in such form as they may specify, provided that he shall
also submit with such vouchers an affidavit sworn to by him upon
personal knowledge showing for each day of the month just passed
the number of miles each vehicle used by him and his deputies has
been driven in the performance of the duties of his or their office,
as determined by him from a daily check of the speedometer readings
of the respective vehicles. The Sheriff's office shall also receive an
appropriation of $1,500, to be used for special investigations and em-
ployees, subject to the approval of the County Commissioners.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 97
(Senate Bill 13)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 62 (b)
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Elections," subtitle "Primary Elections," to change the
day for holding of primary elections for municipal offices in
Baltimore City.

Whereas, the Baltimore City Charter was amended by the voters
of Baltimore City at the election held on November 3, 1964, and one
of the amendments adopted changed the date of the next general
election for municipal offices in Baltimore City to November, 1967,
rather than May, 1967, and thereafter in November in every
fourth year; and

Whereas, the change in the date of the general election for munic-
ipal offices in Baltimore City makes it desirable to change the date
for holding primary elections for such offices which is now pro-
vided in subsection (b) of Section 62 of Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition). Otherwise, the City's annual
budgeting procedure would be carried out while elections are in
progress and possible changes in the elected officials of the City
could radically affect the budget, and unless the date of the pri-
mary election is changed, the interval between such election and
the general election will be too great; therefore
