Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen, Nineteen, and Twenty in Ward Twenty
and of the area within Wards Twenty-one, Twenty-two, Twenty-three,
Twenty-four and Twenty-five.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act shall
be construed or applied to affect the tenure of the several Delegates
and State Senators from the six Legislative Districts of Baltimore
City as they existed immediately prior to June 1, 1964. The changes
in the several Legislative Districts of Baltimore City are to be effec-
tive for the primary and general election scheduled in the year 1966,
and thereafter the Districts here described are to be the several
Legislative Districts of Baltimore City at the time the Delegates
and Senators elected in 1966 qualify and take office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1964.

CHAPTER 2
(House Bill 37)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (p-2)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition
and 1963 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in
Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," to provide for a temporary in-
crease of one assistant State's attorney who may be appointed by
the State's Attorney for Montgomery County and whose term of
office shall expire December 31, 1966.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (p-2) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition and 1963 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law
and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments and to read as
follows:

40.

(p-2). The State's Attorney may appoint a deputy State's attorney
and six assistant State's attorneys. The deputy State's attorney's
salary shall be not less than six thousand dollars ($6,000), and this
compensation may be increased by the County Council in its discre-
tion. The assistant State's attorneys' salaries shall be not less than
four thousand five hundred dollars ($4,500) each, and this compen-
sation may be increased by the County Council in its discretion. The
State's Attorney may appoint one additional temporary assistant
State's attorney whose term of office shall expire December 31, 1966.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate preser-
vation of the public health and safety and having been passed by a
yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members elected
to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the
same shall take effect from the date of its passage.
